Temptations Are Sure to Come – Luke 17:1-2

In the life of King Edward, that young prince who died at 15 years of age, there were two bishops who came to the young king to persuade him to yield to a toleration of the Roman Catholic Mass for the sake of his sister.  He stood against it though he was young, thinking it a dishonor to God.  They pleaded and reasoned with him, telling him it was in the best interest of state policy.  Yet, this poor king, though young, had his heart possessed with this principle, that he would not do anything against God.  He could not answer the bishops, who came so subtly, but instead he burst out with tears, and then they were convinced and confessed that the king had more divinity in his finger than they in their whole bodies – Jeremiah Burroughs
